Research background
NAD+ is not a peptide but a nucleotide coenzyme, present in every cell. It plays two distinct roles: electron carrier in glycolysis, the Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, and substrate consumed in signaling reactions.
The second is what opened the current line of research. The sirtuins, the PARPs involved in DNA repair and CD38 all consume NAD+, and its levels decline with age. Hence the work on biosynthesis and precursors — nicotinamide riboside and mononucleotide — on the relationship between energy metabolism and cellular aging, and on DNA repair.
Reconstitution and handling
- Work on a clean surface and disinfect the vial stopper with an alcohol wipe before piercing it.
- Add the bacteriostatic water slowly, letting it run down the inner wall of the vial rather than landing on the powder.
- Do not shake. Swirl the vial gently until the lyophilized powder has fully dissolved: vigorous agitation degrades the peptide.
- The solution should come out clear. If it turns cloudy or shows suspended particles, do not use it.
