Research background
TB-500 is the synthetic version of the active fragment of thymosin beta-4, a 43 amino acid protein present in almost every tissue. The fragment corresponds to the actin-binding region, where much of its biological activity resides.
What is being investigated revolves around cytoskeletal dynamics: thymosin beta-4 sequesters monomeric actin and thereby influences cell migration, a step required both in tissue repair and in the formation of new blood vessels. There is work in models of cardiac, corneal and skin injury, all of it preclinical or in early clinical phases.
Reconstitution and handling
- Work on a clean surface and disinfect the vial stopper with an alcohol wipe before piercing it.
- Add the bacteriostatic water slowly, letting it run down the inner wall of the vial rather than landing on the powder.
- Do not shake. Swirl the vial gently until the lyophilized powder has fully dissolved: vigorous agitation degrades the peptide.
- The solution should come out clear. If it turns cloudy or shows suspended particles, do not use it.
